In this month’s Threads magazine (#141 March 2009), I had the pleasure of writing a feature about sewing artist Anne Hand, who makes detailed couture garments on the half scale. Her work was incredible in person, and it was such a joy to dress the tiny mannequins for the photoshoot we did of her dresses. Each ensemble was made from numerous layered pieces, each with their own personality and awe-inspiring workmanship.
“As the saying goes, good things come in small packages. An artist and associate fashion design professor at Philadelphia University, Anne Hand deftly creates intricate mini garments, proving that bigger isn’t necessarily better. Her half-scale work incorporates the finest fabric and trims, couture stitching and draping techniques–and, at times, a touch of whimsy.”
