Handmade Nation!

Just in case you haven’t heard about it yet, there’s a documentary being made about the crafting community in the United States by Art vs. Craft coordinator Faythe Levine. I had the honor of meeting the lovely Faythe through work at the Renegade Craft Fair in ’06, but also re-met her through my friend Barbara Endes of Elk City (according to Barbara, Ms. Faythe can play the saw, which I plan to make her prove one day.)

As of right now Handmade Nation (the book) will be released by Princeton Architectural Press in November 2008 and the documentary with the same title will be released in 2009.Faythe has traveled over 19,000 miles to document everything craft in the U.S. and caught every bit of it on film or in photo, including interviews with some of my favorites including Jill Bliss, Jenny Hart, Sarah Neuburger, and Susan Beal. Having just put the finishing touches on the book version of the project, efforts are going full-force on finishing the documentary. You can check out clips of it here.

To keep her efforts going and to support the craft community, Handmade Nation will be the featured seller on Etsy.com. You can find tote bags and tees, including their new design above.
