Sour patch gato…

Today was so nice outside that I was happy to take in the sunshine with my friend Josh, scouring a flea market in Manhattan. On the way to meet Josh for brunch, I had to stop in a bodega and get some Advil and water. Never quite being able to satisfy my sweet tooth, I decided to go get some candy, reached my hand down and SURPRISE! My fingers were met by a set of tiny fuzzy paws and even tinier meows. For those living in NYC, cats in bodegas are rather common place, but kittens in boxes of candy… well…

I felt like I found a unicorn. I played with her for a while in the store and contemplated shoplifting her but decided against it. It was the cutest trip to the bodega ever. It even beat the time I talked to an old man about his parrot for about fifteen minutes.

I fell in love with several things while perusing: a piece of furniture that was way too large for me to carry all the way back to Brooklyn (an antique card catalog unit), a dress and a lamp that were quickly snatched up by someone else, and this guy, the Omnibot 2000. But don’t touch him! (I already got in trouble for that.) The ornery man that was selling him really did not like me, and even threatened to charge me $1 for taking Sir Bot’s picture. I moved on to the next booth rather quickly, despite the jade plates and bowls that were calling my name.

I found plenty of photographic treasures while I was there, including the smallest ice skates I had ever seen, an old chemistry set, large (and mini!) ET’s, the tackiest deer antlers ever, and of course, many animals who had met their demise decades ago in the form of a socialite’s wardrobe. Thank you, Manhattan. I will most definitely be taking advantage of these flea markets more before the weather turns sour.
